Narrative
WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – An 18-year-old Taylor resident lost his life last Sunday, June 9, as a passenger involved in a single-vehicle west Ann Arbor crash that left another person seriously injured.
Ann Arbor Police said the fatal accident occurred in the area of Jackson Avenue and Gralake Avenue. Officers responded to the scene just before 5:00 a.m. after being alerted to an iPhone’s crash notification
Officials learned that a 19-year-old Ecorse resident had been driving westbound on Jackson Avenue when the car veered off the roadway near the curve at Gralake Avenue before colliding with several trees.
First responders pronounced the Taylor teen deceased at the scene. The other passenger, a 19-year-old from Detroit, was rushed to the University of Michigan Hospital for treatment of major injuries, along with the driver, who sustained minor injuries.
An investigation was in progress, but police say impairment is suspected and that following his release from the hospital, the driver is expected to be arrested and charged.
