WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A 17-year-old boy was killed and a 15-year-old girl was critically injured last Saturday, July 20, when a fleeing driver crashed into a fire hydrant and nine parked vehicles at a car dealership in Ypsilanti.
The fatal incident was reported at 15 East Michigan Avenue, the address for Fischer Honda, in the early hours of the morning.
Officials said an 18-year-old male driver was speeding and had fled a traffic stop shortly before his vehicle, carrying the two victims, was involved in the wreck at the dealership. Washtenaw County deputies maintained that they were not actively pursuing the teen driver when the crash occurred.
The 17-year-old boy was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other passenger, identified as the driver’s 15-year-old sister, was rushed to a local hospital where she underwent surgeries to her hips and right arms and is schedule for more operations.
No charges have yet been filed against the driver, who was also taken to the hospital.
